MaaS. Technology as a Driver of Change

The digital transformation is causing the appearance of new forms of mobility that are revolutionizing the concept of public and private transport in cities. Every day new terms thicken the glossary of new mobility in cities. Carsharing, multimodality, last mile, MaaS ..., are some of them.

"Who could imagine a year ago that Madrid would have 20 different scooter companies operating in the city?" Manel Villalante, Managing Director of Strategy and Development of Renfe Operadora, wondered during his presentation at the 4th edition of the ICT Transport Forum, organized on November 27, 2019 by IECISA in collaboration with Railgrup and sponsored by Oracle, under the theme Technology as the engine of change.

In the coming years we will attend a battle to be the 'Airbnb' of mobility, said another speaker at the aforementioned forum, in which Renfe and EMT Madrid presented their respective MaaS applications - Mobility as a Service -, in addition to contributing their vision on the difficulties and challenges of implementing mobility as a service in cities.

On the other hand, disruptive technologies such as the Internet of Things, IA, big data or machine learning, blockchain, are impacting our organizations by building new business models. Metro de Madrid, -which has registered the Estación 4.0 brand and the technological model that supports it, based on 5 pillars- and Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya, with its 2030 Strategic Agenda, with a special focus on the Digital Worker, shared a table of debate on the 'Digitization of infrastructure. Transporte 4.0´ with Transfesa Logistics, who is facing the profound change that freight is undergoing with the application of traceability to the door-door model; the Railgrup business cluster, which highlighted how the digitization of transport opens doors to the end customer and Antonio Valente, the President of the UITP Safety Committee.
