Integrated capacity management system for minimal infection and safe travel

The stations of Madrid Puerta de Atocha and Barcelona Sants have installed this system in their waiting areas, providing safety and optimising resource management.

Madrid, 7 July 2020.- IECISA has installed a capacity control and queue management system at the entrance to the waiting areas of the stations of Barcelona Sants and Madrid Puerta de Atocha. The pilot installed in Madrid is already showing the effectiveness of the system, as part of its safety measures for preventing Covid-19.

The commitment to social responsibility for the public of Adif, the owner and operator of both stations, has reinforced the need to implement the necessary prevention measures at train stations with the greatest passenger traffic: Madrid Puerta de Atocha and Barcelona Sants. IECISA has been awarded this project thanks to its proposed solution. The proposed system is based on a meshing of overhead sensors located above the area of interest, so that each traveller can be individually traced by distinguishing between luggage and luggage trolleys. The indicators obtained through the sensors are managed and processed through a cloud platform.

The integrated capacity control and queue management system provides real-time monitoring of the length of entry queues and capacity control, allowing early alerts to be set in the event of any excess indicators. These data in turn allow for the optimisation of entry to waiting areas by providing information to passengers, greater cleanliness of restrooms according to user volumes, and the possibility of regulating the entries and the assignment of personnel in accordance with specific service needs. “This solution, says César Guillén, manager of the project and of Electronic Security at IECISA, not only provides safety, but also improves customer service and service management, which translates into advantages that give Adif a strategic position in both the short and long-term Covid environment”.

During the pandemic, IECISA has designed and deployed solutions that help organisations effectively manage their return to normality. As a consultancy with expertise in digital solutions, it has offered technological solutions from the outset of this extraordinary situation. These solutions are aimed at managing the measures established to prevent infection at airports, stations, supermarkets and stadiums, such as remote measurement of body temperature, control of distance between people, communication and user information systems, traffic prediction through machine learning algorithms and the contactless ticketing system.
